Mühlenhof Franken – A Passion Project of the Haaf Family

Mühlenhof Franken is much more than a place for a relaxing holiday – it is a passion project of our family and a reflection of our deep connection to the Franconian countryside we proudly call home.

The roots of the Haaf family stretch back as far as the history of our village, Gaubüttelbrunn, itself. For generations, our family has lived and worked here, shaped by the people, landscapes, and traditions of Franconia.

In 1995, Josef Haaf founded the Haaf Group, laying the foundation for what has grown from a small excavation business into a successful family-owned company now led by its second generation. One of Josef Haaf’s greatest sources of pride is that all four of his children are actively involved in the business today, carrying forward the family’s shared values and vision.

Today, brothers Thomas Haaf, Roland Haaf, and Jakob Haaf serve as Managing Partners of the company group, while their sister Susanne Scheer successfully manages the Rhein-Main Natural Stone Center. Together, they represent the values that have always defined the family: reliability, authenticity, sustainable thinking, and a strong commitment to the region.

When the family acquired Mühlenhof in 2020, a new chapter began. From the very beginning, our goal was to preserve this special property for the local community while carefully developing it with respect for its history and character. Over the course of five years, extensive planning, restoration, and investment transformed the site into what is now Mühlenhof Franken. In 2025, we proudly opened five high-quality holiday apartments to welcome guests from near and far.

Our vision extended beyond the restoration of the historic buildings. We wanted to create a place where nature, sustainability, and rural heritage could thrive together. Today, our Highland cattle graze in the surrounding meadows, while more than 1,000 trees and shrubs have been planted to enhance the landscape and establish a unique truffle plantation around the property. The natural spring that belongs to the mill is carefully maintained and protected so that future generations can continue to enjoy this remarkable environment.

Mühlenhof Franken brings together history, nature, and hospitality. It is a place to slow down, reconnect, and experience the authentic charm of Franconia. Created by a family with deep roots in the region, it reflects our passion for preserving local heritage while sharing it with visitors from around the world.
