Recommended Cycling Routes in the Region

Gaubahn Cycle Route

The Gaubahn Cycle Route follows a former railway line between Ochsenfurt and Röttingen and stretches for approximately 37 kilometers. The route is fully paved and almost entirely flat, making it especially suitable for families and recreational cyclists. Along the way, riders pass through beautiful meadows, traditional Franconian villages, and a peaceful rural landscape.

Aalbach Cycle Route

The Aalbach Cycle Route covers approximately 33 kilometers through the idyllic Aalbach Valley, combining nature, culture, and outdoor activity. The route follows quiet paths away from busy roads and leads past fields, forests, and historic attractions such as Uettingen Castle. Gentle inclines add variety to the ride while remaining comfortable for most cyclists. Charming villages along the route invite visitors to take a break and enjoy the local atmosphere. The route also connects directly to the Main Cycle Route.

Main-Tauber Cycle Route

The Main-Tauber Cycle Route is one of the most scenic cycling routes in southern Germany, linking the Main River region with the famous “Lovely Tauber Valley.” Starting in Würzburg, the route passes through diverse landscapes, historic villages, castles, and vineyards.

Cyclists travel through Reichenberg with its impressive castle, as well as Geroldshausen, Kirchheim, Grünsfeld, and finally Lauda. Along the route, breathtaking views open up across the fertile fields of the Ochsenfurt Gau, picturesque stream valleys, and extensive woodland areas.

Historic landmarks, traditional inns, regional wine taverns, and numerous opportunities to stop and relax make this route a memorable experience. Another advantage is that much of the cycle route runs parallel to the Würzburg–Lauda railway line, allowing for a convenient return journey by train whenever needed.
